“She was the brash, rebellious type, never content to stay at home.”
Proverbs 7:11 NLT "I am SO busy!" Four little words. So much meaning. If you're like me, your calendar is jam packed with lots of stuff. Dinner with friends, dance recitals, social events, work obligations, etc. If you're lucky, you'll have "blank" spaces with which you can do whatever you please. You decide to schedule a "me" day- a day in which you will do absolutely nothing aside from lying on your couch watching Netflix. But then you get a text from a friend inviting you to one of their functions: (child's sporting event, tupperware party, etc.) As soon as you see the invite, your stomach drops. This was supposed to be YOUR time! But your friend has been a good friend to you and you don't want to disappoint her. So you rally. You shower and dress and head off to the function. The whole time you are there, you're thinking about how you'd rather be at home in your jammies. You end up leaving the function early because you're so tired. How could this scenario have been handled differently? You could have simply declined the invitation. And not with a hundred million excuses as to why you can't attend- just a simple "I can't make it this time, but thanks for the invite!" Would have been sufficient. If she is a true friend, she would not be upset at all. Then you could have spent the evening doing what you wanted to do: resting at home. Being busy is a choice, my friends. Busyness will overtake your entire life if you let it! It's important that we devote time for our renewal, otherwise what good are we to anyone? So the next time you are facing a calendar filled with lots of "stuff"- take a step back and reevaluate what should remain on your calendar and what can be removed. Then you'll be better equipped to face the week ahead! What can you eliminate from your calendar this week? |
